After the U.K. regulator asked some difficult questions regarding the Swiss bank’s response to rape allegations made by an employee, UBS is setting up a reporting hotline for staff.
If the hotline is implemented, UBS would be the first amongst peers to take an innovative approach to providing a safe and immediate avenue for employees to report harassment. The initiative comes in the wake of disturbing allegations made by a London-based trainee that she was raped by a senior manager who she worked with at the bank.
«Top-Three Pick»
In the aftermath of the incident, the bank was the focus of much negative commentary but remained an employee of choice for many aspiring bankers. «UBS is still amongst the top three choices for any candidate,» a private banking head hunter had confirmed to finews.asia at the time, saying any skepticism potential employees harbored was to do with client duplication rather than any other concerns.
Investment bank co-chiefs Pierro Novelli and Robert Karofsky reassured staff by outlining additional measures such as specialized training in an internal memo, as originally reported by Bloomberg.
