HSBC Appoints China Wealth Duo

London-based HSBC has announced two new appointments for its wealth management and private banking business in China.

HSBC has appointed Max Xu as head of international wealth and premier banking (IWPB), HSBC China, according to a statement, effective April 1. In the role, he will report to Mark Wang, CEO of HSBC China, and functionally to Kai Zhang, head of IWPB, Asia. Xu is currently head of premier banking, IWPB China, after joining the British lender in 2025. He has over 20 years of experience across institutional and consumer banking.

In addition, Samuel Chen has been named head of private bank, HSBC China, also effective April 1, reporting to Xu while working closely with Lok Yim, regional head of HSBC Private Bank, Asia Pacific. Chen has close to 20 years of banking experience, including nine years with HSBC Private Bank in senior client-facing roles.
