Manulife Strengthens AI Leadership in Hong Kong
Canadian insurer Manulife has strengthened its artificial intelligence leadership in Hong Kong with a new appointment and relocation.
Manulife has appointed Hongjuan Liu as chief AI and data officer for Hong Kong and Macau, according to a statement. He will report directly to Hong Kong and Macau CEO Patrick Graham as well as functionally to Mark Czajkowski, chief AI officer, Asia, who has relocated from Singapore to Hong Kong.
Liu has more than 20 years of experience in AI, data strategy, analytics, and digital transformation across multiple industries and geographies, most recently serving as vice president, data at McDonald's China.
Czajkowski has over 20 years of experience spanning marketing, analytics, and AI‑centric strategy. Prior to his current role, he served as Manulife's chief analytics officer for Asia and chief marketing officer for Singapore.
Center of Excellence
According to Manulife, Liu’s appointment supports the establishment of Hong Kong as an AI center of excellence and aligns with the insurer’s strategic priority to become an AI-powered organization with the city anchored as a regional innovation hub.
Globally, the firm has made progress in AI adoption with 100 percent coverage of its workforce with its proprietary GenAI assistant, 91 GenAI use cases in production alongside another 121 in development as of the end of 2025. In Hong Kong, noteworthy achievements include the launch of an AI-powered customer chatbot, GenAI-powered tools for agents, an AI assistant to access underwriting information and investments in related talent programs.
