Crédit Agricole CIB Names Head of Private Capital Group for Japan

Crédit Agricole CIB has appointed Oliver Matthew as head of its Private Capital Group for Japan, effective Aug. 21, as the bank expands its coverage of financial sponsors and private capital investors in the Japanese market.

Based in Tokyo, Oliver Matthew will lead the local expansion of Crédit Agricole CIB’s Private Capital Group, a global coverage team focused on financial sponsors, private equity funds and infrastructure funds, it says in a statement.

He will report locally to Benjamin Lamberg, senior country officer for Japan, and functionally to Luyi Shen, head of the Private Capital Group for Asia Pacific.

The newly created position reflects Crédit Agricole CIB’s efforts to strengthen its local relationships with financial sponsors and private capital funds in Japan, one of the world’s most active private equity markets. The bank also aims to support global financial sponsors as they increase their exposure to Japanese assets.

The appointment comes as Crédit Agricole CIB builds on its presence in Japan. In April, the bank inaugurated a new office at Azabudai Hills Mori JP Tower in Tokyo, marking 80 years of Crédit Agricole’s presence in the country.

Matthew brings more than two decades of financial industry experience in Asia and expertise in Japan’s institutional investment landscape.
He joins Crédit Agricole CIB from CITIC CLSA, where he served as head of Institutional Equities for Japan and country head for Japan.
