Adyen Names Gary Yang as APAC President
Dutch fintech firm Adyen has appointed longtime executive Gary Yang as its new President for Asia-Pacific, entrusting him with leading the company’s next phase of growth.
Adyen has named Gary Yang as its new President for Asia-Pacific, effective August 1. Based in Singapore, he succeeds Warren Hayashi, who will retire at the end of the year after helping establish the company’s regional presence.
Yang joined Adyen in 2018 and most recently served as Senior Vice President and Global Head of Account Management and Partnerships, where he oversaw the expansion of the company’s merchant relationships and global partner ecosystem.
Betting on AI-driven commerce
The appointment comes as Adyen positions itself for the next stage of growth in Asia-Pacific, where digital payments continue to expand rapidly and artificial intelligence is reshaping commerce.
«We are witnessing a critical era across Asia-Pacific, with major fintech transformations in key markets like India and Japan, and a demand for innovation in more mature markets such as Singapore and Australia as we enter the age of AI-driven commerce», Yang said. He added that Adyen is well positioned to help businesses scale as the region’s payments landscape evolves.
Extensive technology background
Before taking on global responsibilities at Adyen, Yang held senior positions at technology companies including Peek and viagogo. Earlier in his career, he worked at Boston Consulting Group, Microsoft, Booz Allen Hamilton and venture capital firm GGV Capital. He holds an MBA from Stanford Graduate School of Business as well as degrees in computer engineering and finance from the University of Maryland.
Focus on regional expansion
Chief Commercial Officer Roelant Prins said the appointment reflects Adyen’s strategy of deploying experienced global executives into key regional leadership roles while remaining focused on local customer needs.
Adyen operates across nine Asia-Pacific locations, including Singapore, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Shanghai, Sydney and Mumbai, serving multinational clients such as Cathay Pacific, Singapore Airlines, Klook, Agoda, Amazon Japan, Xiaomi, Temu and UNIQLO.
