HSBC Appoints Head of Customer, International and Marketing in Singapore

HSBC Singapore has appointed a new senior executive to strengthen customer experience, marketing and international wealth management as the bank expands its presence in one of Southeast Asia’s key financial hubs.

HSBC has appointed Henry Tong as its new Head of Customer, International and Marketing for Singapore, effective October 19., as the bank looks to strengthen customer engagement and expand its international wealth management business.

Tong brings more than 35 years of experience in wealth management, international banking, sales leadership and business development. He joins HSBC from Citi, where he most recently served as Managing Director and Head of Wealth Continuum, Asia South Wealth.

In his new role, Tong will oversee customer proposition development, customer experience and integrated brand and marketing initiatives for HSBC’s International Wealth and Premier Banking business in Singapore. His priorities will include strengthening customer offerings, deepening client relationships and supporting the continued growth of the bank’s international wealth franchise.

“As our customers become increasingly international in their outlook, the ability to seamlessly connect them with opportunities and solutions across markets remains a key priority,” said Ashmita Acharya, Head of International Wealth and Premier Banking at HSBC Singapore.

Tong’s experience in developing cross-border and customer-focused offerings will help the bank respond to the evolving international wealth needs of customers in Singapore, Acharya added.

Singapore remains a strategic growth market

HSBC considers Singapore a priority market, describing it as the fifth-largest geographic contributor to the group’s profit before tax, a key wholesale offshore booking center and a wealth hub in Southeast Asia.

The bank continues to invest in its technology, distribution network and customer experience in the city-state. It plans to double technology spending over five years and has increased investment in its physical network fivefold. Since 2024, HSBC has opened four new Wealth Centers in Singapore.

The bank has also announced plans to recruit more than 100 artificial intelligence specialists and establish a Global AI Centre of Excellence in Singapore. In addition, it intends to hire 100 more relationship managers to strengthen client coverage and support business growth.
