Former Prudential Executive Joins Manulife Hong Kong Board

Manulife Hong Kong and Macau has strengthened its board with another seasoned insurance executive.

Manulife Hong Kong and Macau has appointed Lilian Ng as an Independent Non-Executive Director, reinforcing the insurer’s governance capabilities as competition intensifies across Asia’s life insurance and wealth management markets.

Ng brings more than 35 years of experience in the life and health insurance industry spanning Asia and Australia. During her career, she has held senior executive and board positions across multiple markets, building expertise in corporate governance, business growth, actuarial management, strategy and distribution.

Greater China veteran

The appointment is particularly significant given Ng’s extensive experience in Greater China.

Before joining Manulife’s board, she spent more than 30 years at Prudential, where she held several senior leadership positions, including Regional Chief Executive Officer for Greater China. In that role, she oversaw operations across Hong Kong, mainland China and Taiwan.

She also served as Managing Director of Prudential’s Strategic Business Group, Chief Executive Officer for Asia Insurance and Chief Operating Officer of Prudential Corporation Asia, helping develop regional multi-channel distribution platforms and customer strategies.

Governance focus

Incoming Manulife Hong Kong and Macau Chief Executive Officer Wilton Kee said Ng’s regional expertise and governance experience would strengthen the board as the company continues its long-term expansion.

«Lilian’s deep industry expertise, regional perspective and strong governance experience will be a valuable addition to our Board,» Kee said. «Her insights into customer strategy, distribution and sustainable growth will support our long-term growth ambitions in Hong Kong and Macau.»

Ng said she looked forward to supporting the insurer as it entered its next phase of development.

«I am pleased to join the Board of Manulife (International) Limited as the company enters its next phase of growth,» she said.

Strengthening oversight

A qualified actuary from Australia, Ng has worked across actuarial, finance, corporate strategy and business development throughout her career. She has also served on the boards of numerous companies across Asia and has extensive experience working with regulators throughout the region.

According to Manulife, the appointment reflects its ongoing efforts to strengthen corporate governance, enhance independent board oversight and deepen the expertise available to support the company’s long-term growth strategy in Hong Kong and Macau.
