Mastercard Courts ASEAN Travelers
Mastercard is betting on the continued rise of intra-Asian travel, launching a new regional campaign aimed at making journeys across Southeast Asia more seamless and rewarding.
The payments giant on Friday unveiled «Phone. Passport. Mastercard», a travel initiative spanning Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines and Vietnam. Developed together with issuing banks and merchant partners, the programme offers travellers access to more than 300 promotions covering dining, shopping, accommodation, transport and leisure activities across the region.
The campaign reflects growing demand for short-haul travel within Asia, as consumers increasingly opt for nearby destinations that offer convenience, value and cultural diversity.
Focus on seamless payments
At the centre of the initiative is Mastercard's effort to simplify the travel experience through digital payments. The company is positioning its network as one of the key tools travellers need alongside their smartphone and passport.
Whether paying for transport, booking accommodation or dining abroad, travellers can access offers while relying on Mastercard's payment infrastructure, which incorporates technologies such as tokenisation, multi-factor authentication and fraud monitoring to support secure cross-border transactions.
The company said the goal is to reduce friction during travel and allow consumers to focus on their experiences rather than payment logistics.
Supporting regional merchants
The campaign is also designed to benefit merchants and tourism-related businesses by connecting them with consumers travelling along some of Southeast Asia's busiest short-haul routes.
«Southeast Asia is one of the most rewarding regions in the world to explore today – rich in culture, nature, food and unforgettable experiences, often just a short trip away,» said Dheeraj Raina, Senior Vice President and Head of Integrated Marketing and Communications for Southeast Asia at Mastercard.
According to Raina, the campaign aims to make travel across the region more accessible while helping consumers discover local businesses and experiences.
Riding the regional travel recovery
The initiative comes as Southeast Asia continues to benefit from strong tourism flows, improving air connectivity and rising demand for regional leisure travel. With six countries participating and hundreds of promotional offers available, Mastercard is seeking to position itself at the centre of the travel payment journey from planning and booking through to spending at the destination.
The campaign will run until December 2026 across both pre-travel and in-destination channels, reinforcing Mastercard's strategy of linking payment services more closely with consumer lifestyle and travel experiences.
