Prudential Reaches Settlement in Malaysia Dividend Case
British insurer Prudential reached a settlement deal regarding a dispute about a dividend claim by a Malaysian shareholder.
Prudential has reached a full and final settlement regarding a dividend claim, according to a statement. The claim was made by Detik Ria, a 49 percent shareholder in Sri Han Suria Sdn Bhd (SHS) which is the holding company of Prudential Assurance Malaysia Berhad.
Detik Ria had initiated legal proceedings against Prudential in April 2025 regarding dividends equivalent to approximately $833 million plus interest at a rate of 5 percent. As a result of the settlement, $83 million of dividends will be paid to Detik Ria by SHS. In addition, Prudential has waived $33 million which was owed by Detik Ria to one of the insurer's subsidiaries as a result of a court decision.
