The Swiss National Bank has broken its silence over the nation's most troubled lender.

The Swiss National Bank (SNB) is watching the situation at Credit Suisse closely, «Reuters» reported Wednesday, citing SNB governing board member Andrea Maechler.

«We are monitoring the situation,» Maechler is reported as saying, referring to Switzerland’s second-largest bank, which has said it will release its new strategy on October 27.

Until now, the central bank has refrained from commenting on Credit Suisse. This week the bank's share price hit a record low of 3.52 Swiss francs following intense media speculation about its health.
