HSBC Shifts Singapore Fresh Grad Recruitment Online
In yet another move to adapt to the post-coronavirus environment, HSBC is conducting the recruitment of fresh graduates in Singapore online this year.
In contrast to previous interviews conducted in-person at «assessment centers», HSBC will run its fresh grad hiring campaign in Singapore online, according to a statement.
In addition to video interviews and online assessments, the bank will host virtual campus events with senior HSBC executives covering topics like the future of banking, sustainable investing, fintech, digitalization and women in banking. Its hiring capabilities now also include online acceptance of work contracts, which has reduced onboarding time by two to three days.
«As a growth market for HSBC globally, we are focused on investing to attract the best local talent and further developing their skills,» said Brandon Coate, head of human resources for HSBC Singapore. «To attract these candidates, we need to quickly embrace new ways of working, and we are adapting accordingly.»
HR Upgrades
Hiring side, the bank’s human resource efforts to adapt to the post-coronavirus environment also include flexible work options for new joiners. Hiring managers have the option to enable virtual «work desktop» access or have bank-issued laptops couriered to new employees’ homes to minimize office travel. In one case, an intern kicked of his 5-week Singapore internship while being physically based in India due to travel restrictions.
Local induction for all interns were fully virtual with 69 percent of global banking, markets and private banking intern population spending 3.5 hours of online training every day during the 5-week program.
«Despite the current environment, we are committed to rolling out the same robust recruitment and training programs that continue to be a key part of our hiring plans,» Coate added. «This is not only the right thing to do, but also ensures that our workforce remains agile and nimble enough to surmount the challenges ahead.»
