The senior executive will be responsible for driving the development of Manulife's operations in Southeast Asia’s emerging markets – namely Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines and Vietnam.

Multinational financial services firm Manulife announced the appointment of Sachin N. Shah as its new general manager, emerging markets, Asia, effective August 1, 2020.

Shah will join the firm's Asia executive committee and global leadership team, and reports to Anil Wadhwani, president and chief executive, Asia. 

«This appointment demonstrates our continued commitment to our Southeast Asia emerging market operations. Sachin has the talent, experience and ambition we were looking for to accelerate the transformation and growth of these businesses,» Wadhwani said in an announcement on Tuesday.

Experienced Leader

Shah joins the firm from AIG, where he was its Singapore-based chief executive officer for its Asia Pacific general insurance business since January 2019. He previously spent two decades in senior management roles with MetLife, including as chairman, president and CEO of MetLife Japan since 2013.

Prior to MetLife, he was a vice president of product development and marketing in the global institutional services business of Bankers Trust.
