Standard Chartered Doubles Fintech Push

Standard Chartered unveiled its latest innovation laboratory in Hong Kong, the second Asian fintech center for the bank.

Standard Chartered inaugurated its Hong Kong eXellerator facility, a testing space for fintech products and services in Hong Kong, the bank said in a statement. The bank will operate the innovation center under its SC Ventures arm, which invests in emerging fintechs and other startups. It will work on exploring technologies particularly in artificial intelligence and cybersecurity.

The bank, which makes the majority of its revenue in Asia, bulked up its digital credibility by appointing Michael Gorriz information chief and Anju Patwardhan as innovation head three years ago.

Since then, Standard Chartered has rolled out digital initiatives across its wealth management and retail units and also launched the first eXellerator innovation lab located in Singapore. The bank also put digital investment tools into the hands of their high net worth private bankers.
