Almost one in two respondents is not happy at work in Singapore, according to a recent survey. Why is that so?

Some 45 percent of Singaporeans said to be unhappy at work in 2017, according to «JobStreet.com’s» Job Happiness Index 2017, an online survey. They cited issues such as lack of perspective for career development, training opportunities and issues with management.

The survey in Singapore covered a wide range of industries including banking and financial services, as well as manufacturing and production.

Bigger Is Better

The survey also revealed that 55 out of 100 employees are either neutral or happy at work, chiefly thanks to work location, followed by good colleagues and the company’s reputation. 

More content employees were also found in larger companies that had a defined organizational structure that allowed employees to look at other options without leaving the company. Life-long learning opportunities are also more prevalent due to the scale of larger companies.
