Barclays is bulking up in Hong Kong, with the aim of bolstering its Chinese investment banking business.

The British bank has hired Pamela Yeung as head of equities capital markets distribution for China, according to «FinanceAsia,» which cited an internal memorandum.

She is a longtime Citigroup banker who most recently worked for China Minsheng.

The London-headquartered bank is also hiring Angela Hu from J.P. Morgan as its head of China financial sponsors.

Hong Kong Push

The hires of Yeung and Hu, both veteran bankers, represent Barclays' resolve to strengthening in the region, investment bank co-head Reid Marsh said.

Yeung is to help grab offshore initial public offering business and equity-linked financing. Meanwhile, Hu is to strengthen advisory ties to Chinese firms.

Both women will be based in Hong Kong.

Tokyo Move

The bank is also hiring Nomura banker Takeshi Sugiyama in Tokyo as the head of its consumer and retail arm in Japan.

The 18-year-veteran of the Japanese bank is to foster ties among clients looking to expand overseas.
