Adani Group Seeks Loan to Fund Data Centre Expansion
Financing drive comes as Gautam Adani’s conglomerate advances its $100 billion digital infrastructure investment ambition, amid intensifying competition in India’s AI and cloud computing market.
India’s Adani Group is seeking to raise approximately $1.5 billion in offshore financing to support its expansion into data centres, as the conglomerate accelerates its ambitions in artificial intelligence (AI) and digital infrastructure.
AdaniConneX Pvt., the group’s data centre joint venture with global data centre operator EdgeConneX, is in discussions with a group of international lenders, including DBS Group Holdings, First Abu Dhabi Bank and Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, Bloomberg reports quoting people familiar with the matter.
Other financial institutions involved in the discussions include Natixis, ING Bank and Societe Generale.
The proposed financing is expected to have a tenor of between five and seven years, with lenders and the company currently discussing pricing and other terms. The structure and final conditions of the facility have yet to be agreed.
The fundraising effort comes as Adani Group pursues an ambitious plan to invest approximately $100 billion in data centres and related digital infrastructure by 2035, building on its established presence in energy and infrastructure.
Major destination for investment
Adani is positioning itself to capitalise on this opportunity as India emerges as a major destination for investment in digital infrastructure. Its expansion also places it in increasingly direct competition with other major Indian conglomerates seeking to establish a foothold in the rapidly developing AI infrastructure market.
India's data centre industry is expected to experience substantial growth over the coming years. Government projections indicate that the country's data centre capacity could rise to nearly eight gigawatts by 2030, compared with approximately 1.57 gigawatts in August 2026.
The sector could attract around $200 billion in investment over the next seven to eight years, reflecting the country's ambitions to become a significant hub for AI, cloud computing and digital services.
The latest fundraising initiative follows an $800 million financing secured by AdaniConneX several months ago. That facility had a duration of 18 months, providing an additional source of capital for the company's development programme.
