Zurich Names CEO for China

Zurich Insurance Group has appointed Scott Yin as chief executive officer of Zurich China, pending regulatory approval, as the Swiss insurer looks to accelerate growth in China, a key strategic market for its Asia-Pacific business.

Based in Shanghai, Scott Yin will report to Eric Hui, CEO of Greater China. He will lead the next phase of growth in Zurich’s commercial insurance business while expanding its retail offerings and working closely with Zurich Cover-More on its Travel Guard products in the Chinese market, it says in a statement.

“Zurich’s global network, commercial expertise and strong local foundations create a powerful platform for easing the journey for Chinese businesses as they navigate the challenges of an increasingly competitive economy,” Hui said.

Technical Expertise, Commercial Leadership and Knowledge

Hui cited Yin’s technical expertise, commercial leadership and knowledge of the Chinese insurance market, along with his experience supporting the international expansion of Chinese businesses. He also highlighted Yin’s background in motor and electric vehicle (EV) pricing and underwriting.

Yin said he would work with Zurich’s teams to strengthen the company’s insurance offerings and help customers manage risks as their businesses grow.
“Ensuring customers have the right insurance frameworks for managing risk while optimizing their protection is key,” Yin said, adding that he looked forward to working with Zurich’s teams and clients to support the company’s growth in China.

Extensive Insurance and EV Expertise

Yin brings more than 20 years of experience in the Chinese and Australian insurance markets, combining technical expertise with full profit-and-loss responsibility.
He joins Zurich from AXA Tianping, where he held senior leadership positions, including chief actuary and chief pricing officer. At AXA Tianping, he established the EV Insurance Centre of Excellence, using insights from China's rapidly evolving electric vehicle market to develop insurance capabilities for international markets.

He also worked closely with Chinese insurers and automotive partners to support the overseas expansion of Chinese EV manufacturers.

Yin is a fellow of both the Institute of Actuaries of Australia and the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries in the United Kingdom.

The appointment underscores Zurich’s focus on expanding its presence in China by building on its commercial insurance capabilities, growing its retail business and supporting Chinese companies as they enter international markets.
