Capital Group Poaches Blackrock ETF Executive

Capital Group has appointed longtime Blackrock executive Jamie Sinclair to head its ETF business across Europe and Asia-Pacific, underscoring the firm’s ambitions to expand its active ETF franchise beyond North America.

Capital Group has named Jamie Sinclair as Head of ETFs for Europe and Asia-Pacific, recruiting the senior executive from BlackRock as the global asset manager accelerates the international expansion of its active exchange-traded fund business.

Based in London, Sinclair will be responsible for building and leading Capital Group’s ETF operations across both regions. He joins from Blackrock, where he spent more than a decade in senior leadership roles, most recently serving as Head of iShares Product Distribution for the EMEA region.

«Jamie brings extensive ETF distribution expertise and a deep understanding of our clients’ needs across Europe and Asia-Pacific,» said Scott Davis, Head of ETFs at Capital Group. «His leadership will play an important role as we continue expanding our presence across the region.»

Betting on active ETFs

Sinclair said he was joining Capital Group at «an incredibly exciting time» for the firm, citing its long-term investment philosophy, strong research culture and client-focused approach.

«I look forward to working with my colleagues to support the firm’s continued growth across Europe and Asia-Pacific,» he said.

The appointment comes as active ETFs continue to gain momentum globally, with established mutual fund managers increasingly seeking to capture investor demand for the fast-growing vehicle.

Building an international franchise

Capital Group, which manages approximately $3.4 trillion in assets, currently offers 25 active ETFs and eight ETF model portfolios in the United States. The firm is the third-largest provider of active ETFs in the U.S., with a market share of 7.4 percent, while also offering four active ETFs in Canada.

The appointment of Sinclair signals Capital Group’s intention to replicate part of that success in Europe and Asia-Pacific, where investor demand for actively managed ETFs continues to expand.
