Canadian asset manager AIMCo opens its first office in Asia, as part of broader plans to diversify globally and tap into attractive growth opportunities in the region.

The Alberta Investment Management Corporation (AIMCo) opened its Singapore office on Tuesday, according to a media briefing attended by finews.asia. The new office will be led by Kevin Bong, senior managing director, chief investment strategist and head of Singapore.

In the role, Bong is responsible for setting both AIMCo's global investment strategy and its strategic direction for APAC. Bong has 20 years of experience in global portfolio construction and asset allocation, previously working at Singapore sovereign wealth fund GIC. He joined AIMCo in May this year.

Global Expansion

AIMCo invests globally on behalf of 17 pension, endowment and government fund clients in Alberta. It is among Canada's largest and most diversified institutional investment managers with $121 billion in assets under management.

Including the new Singapore office, AIMCo now has six offices globally in addition to Edmonton, Calgary, Toronto, London and Luxembourg. Plans to add a New York office next are now underway, CEO Evan Siddall said at the media briefing.
