J.P. Morgan Refreshes «Culture of Respect» After Viral Video

The investment bank has sent a circular to its 3,000 employees in Singapore, following a viral video in which an employee was filmed clashing with a security guard over his condominium's parking rules for guests.

An e-mailed circular to the 3,000 Singapore employees of multinational investment bank J.P. Morgan is reminding them to uphold a «culture of respect,» reported «The Straits Times» on Wednesday.

«Our people, services and commitment to integrity have made J.P. Morgan one of the most respected financial institutions in the world. We all have a shared responsibility for preserving and building on this strong reputation,» said Edmund Lee, the firm's senior country officer, Singapore, in the circular.

The notice was sent in the wake of a viral video of a man, later identified as an employee of the bank, yelling and swearing at his security guard who tried to enforce the condominium's S$10 ($7) parking fee for overnight visitors.

Minister Chimes In

The incident, which took place on Saturday, a day before the Deepavali holiday, has prompted many to condemn the man's behavior, including Senior Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam.

«What this resident did and said was wrong — at so many levels. It is these examples of modern-day bigotry and a sense of entitlement that the light of Deepavali seeks to dispel,» the minister, who also chairs the Monetary Authority of Singapore, said in a Facebook post.

An online petition calling for J.P. Morgan to fire the belligerent executive garnered almost 27,000 signatures as of Wednesday.
