State Street Global Advisors Appoints Head for China Market

The asset management arm of U.S. financial services and bank holding company State Street has created a new head of China role.

State Street Global Advisors has announced the appointment of Alex Sun as managing director and head of China, a newly created role, the firm said in a news release on Thursday.

In this role, Sun will responsible for formulating and implementing the business plan of State Street Global Advisors for China and will be the head of its newly established wholly foreign-owned enterprise in the country. He will be based in China and will report to June Wong, head of Asia ex-Japan.

«China offers significant long-term growth potential for us. Alex will utilize our investment management WFOE in Shanghai as a springboard to help State Street Global Advisors build out our long-term business plan in this very sizable and strategically important market,» Wong said about the appointment.

Onshore Fund Expert

Sun has more than 15 years of asset management experience in China and has accumulated a breadth of expertise in relation to the onshore fund management business. 

He was previously the assistant general manager of HSBC Global Asset Management's China joint venture known as HSBC Jintrust, where he spent 12 years as head of Institutional and Wholesale Business. He was also head of e-commerce at Fortune SGAM Fund Management, Societe Generale Asset Management's China joint venture, and worked as a regional sales manager at E Fund Management.
