UBS is merging its equity and debt capital market businesses in Asia Pacific with immediate effect, according to an internal memo seen by finews.asia on Thursday. Switzerland's biggest bank cites product and client interactions across the two groups as a reason for their decision to amalgamate the units.

Gaetano Bassolino, currently head of the debt capital market business in the region, will take on the role head of Asia Pacific capital markets with immediate effect.

Hannah Malter will move into equity capital markets to support Selina Cheung, according to the memo sent by David Chin, head of Asia Pacific corporate client solutions.
