AllianzGI Acquires UOB Asset Management

Allianz Global Investors (AllianzGI) has agreed to acquire UOB Asset Management (UOBAM), the asset management arm of Singapore's United Overseas Bank (UOB), in a move that significantly strengthens its presence across Southeast Asia and expands its access to one of the region's largest banking distribution networks.

The transaction, which includes a long-term strategic distribution partnership with UOB, will lift AllianzGI's assets under management for clients in Asia Pacific to more than EUR 170 billion. Financial terms include a purchase price of SGD 555 million (EUR 376 million), including excess capital and the value of the distribution agreement. The deal is expected to close in 2027, subject to regulatory approvals.

The acquisition gives AllianzGI immediate access to established distribution platforms and local market expertise in fast-growing markets including Thailand, Malaysia and Vietnam, while strengthening its existing operations in Singapore, Taiwan and Indonesia. In Singapore, where AllianzGI has been active since 1999, the transaction will immediately double the firm's assets under management.

Expanding Southeast Asia Footprint

UOB Asset Management oversees approximately EUR 28 billion in assets and operates across eight Asian markets: Singapore, Brunei, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Taiwan, Japan and Vietnam.

Beyond expanding AllianzGI's regional footprint, the transaction also broadens its investment capabilities. UOBAM brings established expertise in Southeast Asian equity strategies and Sharia-compliant investments, complementing AllianzGI's global active investment platform and creating opportunities to develop new investment solutions for clients.

A key element of the transaction is the long-term distribution agreement with UOB, which serves more than eight million customers across ASEAN. The partnership is expected to enhance the bank's wealth management offering while providing AllianzGI with long-term access to one of Southeast Asia's largest retail banking networks.

«UOB Asset Management is one of Southeast Asia's leading asset managers, with highly regarded investment capabilities and a strong distribution network,» said Tobias Pross, Chief Executive Officer of AllianzGI.

«Bringing its complementary Southeast Asian investment expertise into our global platform will strengthen our combined offering and significantly accelerate our growth in this dynamic region. This transaction reinforces our long-term ambition to expand the availability of our investment solutions across Southeast Asia while enhancing our market presence and our ability to serve a broader client base.»

Wealth Management Focus

For UOB, the transaction forms part of its broader strategy to strengthen its wealth management business while continuing to provide investment solutions through its partnership with AllianzGI.

«UOB serves more than eight million customers across ASEAN, whose wealth creation and investment needs are becoming increasingly diverse and sophisticated,» said Wee Ee Cheong, Deputy Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of UOB Group.

«By combining UOB's advisory capabilities and client relationships with Allianz Global Investors' investment expertise, we will be well positioned to meet our customers' evolving needs and support their long-term wealth ambitions. The transaction will also accelerate the growth of our wealth management business while creating sustainable value for our shareholders. During the transition, ensuring continuity for both customers and employees will remain our highest priority.»
