Citi Appoints New Head of Corporate Banking for Hong Kong

Citi has announced the appointment of Anita Li as its new Head of Corporate Banking for Hong Kong, effective July 2026, as the bank looks to strengthen its position in one of Asia’s key financial hubs.

In her new role, Anita Li will oversee Citi’s corporate banking operations in Hong Kong, managing relationships across local corporates, financial institutions, public sector organizations, and multinational subsidiaries. She will report jointly to the regional Head of Corporate Banking for Japan, Asia North & Australia, as well as Aveline San, Hong Kong CEO & Banking Head.

Li brings more than 25 years of industry experience to the position. She joins Citi from Standard Chartered Hong Kong, where she most recently served as Head of Investors for Greater China & North Asia and Head of Financial Institutions for Hong Kong. In that capacity, she led teams serving institutional investors and financial services clients across Greater China, Japan, and Korea.

Kaleem Rizvi, Co-Head of Corporate Banking, said Li’s regional expertise and leadership would be critical in advancing the bank’s integrated offering. “Anita’s regional experience and track record will be instrumental as we continue to grow our corporate banking franchise in Hong Kong,” he said.

San added that Hong Kong continues to play a dual strategic role in global finance. “Hong Kong serves both as a launchpad for Chinese companies expanding globally and as a gateway for multinational firms entering China and the broader region,” she said.

Key Financial Hub

Citi said the appointment comes amid strong momentum in its Hong Kong franchise, which serves more than 1,000 institutional clients. The bank highlighted the Hong Kong–China corridor as a key growth driver, noting that client activity has expanded at a compound annual growth rate of nearly 15% over the past five years.

The U.S.–Hong Kong corridor also remains strategically important, supported by ongoing foreign direct investment and trade flows. Meanwhile, Citi reported significant growth in business activity between Hong Kong-based clients and ASEAN markets, which now account for more than half of the bank’s outbound client activity from the city.
