UBS Appoints New Brand Chief Amid Industry Reshuffle

UBS has named a new Head of Group Brand & Marketing. He will step into the role on 11 August, finews.asia has learned.

Richard «Rich» Morton, a UBS veteran with over 19 years at the bank, brings extensive experience across a wide range of marketing and communications functions. Over the course of his 20-year career, he has led teams at both group and business division levels.

According to his LinkedIn profile, he has served as Chief Marketing Officer for Global Wealth Management since 2022. In his new role, Morton will report to Stefan Seiler, Head of Human Resources & Corporate Services.

«Thanks to his deep knowledge of the bank, combined with a proven track record in executing successful brand and marketing strategies, he is well-positioned to shape the next chapter of UBS’s brand and marketing journey,» Seiler said in an internal memo.

Strategic Shift at HSBC Sparks Departure

Morton succeeds John McDonald, who is leaving UBS to join UK competitor HSBC, according to news wire «Bloomberg». McDonald, who previously held positions at Mastercard, will return to London to become HSBC’s new Chief Marketing Officer.

The move is part of a broader strategic overhaul under HSBC CEO Georges Elhedery. The bank is intensifying its focus on expanding its global wealth management operations, with the ambition of becoming the leading wealth manager outside the United States.

HSBC executive Barry O’Byrne said McDonald will be tasked with driving growth, increasing market share, and sharpening the brand’s positioning.
