Singapore Anchors Alibaba Cloud’s AI Expansion

Singapore is proving its status as Asia’s digital powerhouse. Celebrating a decade since establishing its international headquarters in the Lion City, Alibaba Cloud has unveiled a sweeping new chapter, launching its first AI Global Competency Center and accelerating infrastructure growth across Southeast Asia.

To keep pace with skyrocketing demand for artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud services, Alibaba Cloud is rapidly growing its Southeast Asian footprint. On July 1, it launched its third data center in Malaysia and announced plans for a second data center in the Philippines by October 2025.

These additions follow recent expansions in Thailand, Mexico, and South Korea. The result: a robust, distributed infrastructure ready to serve a new generation of AI-powered enterprises with speed, security, and scale.

Singapore’s New AI Nerve Center

The jewel in the crown of this year’s announcements is the launch of the AI Global Competency Center (AIGCC) in Singapore. Designed to support over 5,000 businesses and 100,000 developers worldwide, the center offers companies access to cutting-edge AI models, high-performance computing, and expert support.

More than just a research facility, the AIGCC is a collaborative ecosystem. Over 1,000 companies and startups are expected to co-develop AI solutions here, with over 10 pre-built AI agents ready to transform industries such as finance, healthcare, retail, and logistics.

Cultivating AI Talent for a Smarter Future

Alibaba Cloud also announced a major investment in talent development. In partnership with more than 120 universities and institutions around the globe, the company plans to train 100,000 AI professionals each year, nurturing the next generation of machine learning engineers, data scientists, and innovation leaders.

With Singapore’s world-class education infrastructure and talent base, the city-state is poised to benefit directly from this global skills push.

New Tools to Accelerate AI Application Development

To empower global developers, Alibaba Cloud introduced new IaaS and PaaS product upgrades alongside enhanced AI tools. The standout is an upgraded Data Transmission Service (DTS) featuring «One Channel For AI,» a capability that automates the entire pipeline from raw data to vector database, powering advanced RAG applications.

By making it easier to handle multimodal data—documents, images, audio, video – the service lowers technical barriers and drastically speeds up the deployment of LLM-powered tools. Businesses can now move from raw data to insight at record speed.

Singapore as a Launchpad for Global AI Leadership

From new data centers to world-class developer ecosystems and AI sustainability research, Alibaba Cloud’s decade in Singapore is more than a milestone – it’s a declaration of intent. With the new AI Global Competency Center, Singapore is not just a hub for Southeast Asia – it is a springboard for global AI leadership.

As enterprise innovation, cloud adoption, and talent development converge, Singapore is firmly positioned to lead the world into the next phase of digital transformation.
