Citi Cuts Thousands of China Tech Jobs

US banking giant Citi will unload technology jobs in mainland China as part of a broader strategic shift.

Citi will reduce the workforce in its China Citi Solution Centers in Shanghai and Dalian by 3,500, the bank announced. The job cuts are expected to be completed by the start of the fourth quarter of this year. Some workers will be moved to Citi’s other tech centers but no specific numbers or locations were specified.

In March, Citi announced plans to reduce reliance on tech contractors and mass hire IT employees instead.
