BTG Pactual Considers Revival of Hong Kong Office

Brazilian investment bank BTG Pactual is reportedly considering opening a Hong Kong office as part of broader plans to expand its operations in Asia.

BTG Pactual is considering opening a new office in Hong Kong, according to an «SCMP» citing partner João Scandiuzzi, with an eye on expanding operations in Asia from data center opportunities among Chinese artificial intelligence firms.

Scandiuzzi visited Hong Kong as part of a roadshow in China last week that saw a delegation of two dozen Brazilian entrepreneurs and family offices touring major cities including Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen.

«Lots of Chinese companies, especially in the electricity sector, come to us when seeking investments in Brazil […] and I think the relationship between Brazil and China in general should be furthered,» Scandiuzzi said.

Predecessor's Presence

BTG Pactual’s predecessor, UBS Pactual, previously established and maintained an office in Hong Kong that was closed in 2015.

UBS Pactual was formed in 2006 after UBS bought Banco Pactual. Former UBS Latin America CEO André Esteves left the Swiss bank to found BTG (Banking and Trading Group) Investments with nine other partners and later bought out UBS shareholders in 2009 to create Banco BTG Pactual.
