The firm's new direct real estate team, based in Singapore, is part of its strategy to build out its alternatives business.

Leading the team is Victoria Sharpe, who was appointed managing principal and head of real estate, Asia-Pacific, effective 1 September, HSBC Asset Management announced on Wednesday.

Sharpe brings almost 40 years of investment experience in real estate, and joins the firm from DWS, where she has been managing director and head of real estate for Asia Pacific since 2016. She has also held senior roles at PGIM, LaSalle Investment Management and Northern Trust Co.

In her new role, she is responsible for the strategic growth of HSBC AM's real estate platform across Asia-Pacific, reporting to Joanna Munro, CEO of HSBC Alternatives.

Growing Team

The firm also announced the appointments of Lionel Low and James Bartlett, who joined the firm as managing principals on 2 August, reporting to Sharpe.

Low joins from Ascendas Asia Real Estate Fund Management, where he held a number of positions since 2013, most recently executive director and previously head of China funds. Bartlett joins from DWS, where he was Real Estate deputy CIO, Asia Pacific and head of real estate, Australia.

In Singapore, the team will work closely with and report locally to Patrice Conxicoeur, Singapore CEO and head of South East Asia, HSBC AM, to grow the real estate proposition, the announcement said.
