Malaysian bank RHB is strengthening its research capabilities with the appointment of Sailesh Kumar Jha as group chief economist, it announced on Thursday.

Jha will head RHB’s economic and market research team, which also includes foreign exchange and fixed income strategy, and will provide expert advice and views on global macroeconomic, financial market developments as well as emerging market trends across the region, RHB said in the statement.

Seasoned Economist

Jha joins from Credit Suisse Private Bank, where he was most recently the Asia chief economist, based in Singapore.

He was previously an economist for Asian Development Bank and a consultant for World Bank, and held various senior positions in global investment banks including Credit Suisse Investment Bank, Barclays Capital, and Jefferies Group.

RHB Banking Group is the fourth-largest fully integrated financial services group in Malaysia, with an international presence spanning nine countries in Asia.
