In a bid to expand its reach in Asia, Chicago-based hedge fund Citadel will open an office in Singapore by the end of the year.

The office will house Citadel’s hedge fund business and its market-making business Citadel Securities, according to a «Bloomberg» report citing a statement from the firm. Citadel will also look to expand in Shanghai and Sydney will continue to grow its Hong Kong operations, the firm added.

«Asia-Pacific continues to be an important focus for both Citadel and Citadel Securities,» said John Buckley, who rejoined Citadel in 2018 as its regional chief operating officer. «We are excited to further extend our presence in the region.»

Citadel first established its Asia presence via the Hong Kong office opened in 2005. As of July this year, the hedge fund has $34 billion of assets under management globally, according to its website.
