She will take up the newly created role of head of Chinese and Hong Kong equities at HSBC Global Asset Management in September.

In her new role, Maurer will lead the firm's team of portfolio managers and analysts based in Hong Kong to manage offshore and onshore Chinese equity assets in excess of $7 billion, the firm said in an announcement on Thursday.

Maurer was most recently head of China equities at BNP Paribas Asset Management, which she left in June after five years at the firm. She brings 13 years of asset management industry experience, including managing Chinese equity funds for Henderson Global Investors in London and Singapore.

She will report to Bill Maldonado, chief investment officer, Asia-Pacific at HSBC Global Asset Management. Maldonado said the firm «remains positive on the long-term prospects for China,» and the appointment «reinforces our commitment to growing our assets in the region and capturing exciting investment opportunities in this rapidly evolving market.»

New Head of Active Equity

HSBC also announced the appointment of Lihua Huang as the new lead of its Shanghai-based team of equity investment managers at HSBC Jintrust Fund Management, the bank's joint venture with Shanxi Trust.

Huang reports to Michael Zheng, head of investment at HSBC Jintrust. She brings 13 years of experience in managing Chinese equity assets and was most recently an executive director in the financial markets department in CITIC Private Equity Funds Investment.

HSBC said the appointments will «strengthen the collaboration between Hong Kong and Shanghai teams and enhance HSBC Global Asset Management’s strong position in Chinese equities.»
