The newly created role was made to support the growing demand for ETFs in the Asia Pacific market.

State Street Global Advisors (SSGA) has appointed Meaghan Victor as the Asia Pacific head of its SPDR exchange-traded funds (ETFs) business, the asset manager announced in a statement on Thursday.

Victor, who joined the firm in 2017, was previously its head of SPDR ETFs for Australia and Singapore. During this time, she successfully launched four ETF Model Portfolios to the Australian market and almost doubled the size of the SPDR team. Her new role sees her leadership responsibilities extend to Hong Kong and Japan, the statement said. She will continue to be based in Sydney, Australia, reporting to head of global SPDR ETFs Rory Tobin.

Victor has over 25 years in the financial services industry, spanning roles in sales leadership, business strategy and product development, for firms like BT Financial Group, KBC Asset Management, Fidelity International, Colonial First State Investments, Count Financial Group, and Macquarie Investment Management.

Growing APAC Market

In the statement, the SSGA pointed out the strong growth of ETFs in Hong Kong and Japan, where this has outpaced other key regional areas. It said that institutional investors in those markets are particularly drawn to ETFs to risk and provide liquidity to their holdings.
