Bill Gross Receives Free Bloomberg Terminals From Founder

Michael Bloomberg has gifted the bond investor a free lifetime subscription for three Bloomberg terminals.

Bill Gross, also known as the bond king, has received three Bloomberg terminals from fellow billionaire Michael Bloomberg. Gross, who founded the world's biggest fixed-income focused asset management firm, will likely use them for managing his fortune in a one-man family office.

«I didn’t want to lose my Bloombergs. So they contacted me and said we appreciate all our years together, so your Bloombergs are free for the rest of your life. It was a nice touch,» said Gross, who was quoted in the FT (behind paywall).

Financial Data Platform

A year-long Bloomberg subscription costs $24,000 a year, making it one of the most expensive financial data platform. Still, it commands about 32 percent of the market for financial data products while competitor Refinitiv/Reuters News controls about 22 percent.

Despite the rise of new competitors like Sentieo, the number of active Bloomberg subscriptions climbed to 330,068 last year, a new record, according to the FT.
