A Hong Kong and Macau banking industry veteran is to be nominated to the Swiss firm's board of directors.

Swiss derivatives firm Leonteq on Friday announced that Susana Gomez Smith is proposed for election as a new independent member of its Board of Directors and of the Nomination and Remuneration Committee.

«With the nomination of Susana Gomez Smith for election as a member of the Board of Directors, we are underlining Leonteq’s commitment to continuously strengthen the independence, skills and diversity of our Board,» Leonteq chairman Christopher M. Chambers said. 

Smith is a banking industry stalwart with over 20 years of experience in the financial service sector, including long stints in Asia. From 2013 to 2018, she was a Managing Director at Santander UK, and was an advisor to the CEO and the Executive Committee at Banco Nacional Ultramarino, Macau from 2012 to 2013. Prior to that, she worked at Citi for 10 years, as Asia Pacific Head of Structuring and Business Manager for Emerging Markets Credit Trading at Citigroup, Hong Kong from 2007 to 2012, and Manager and Public Affairs Officer of Citigroup, Portugal from 2002 to 2007. 

Stepping Down

Outgoing board members include Paulo Brügger, representative of Leonteq’s largest shareholder, Raiffeisen Switzerland, who stepped down from his role as a member of its Board of Directors in February 2019, as well as Vince Chandler, Chairman of the Nomination and Remuneration Committee, who will not stand for re-election and will relinquish all his Board functions with effect from the Annual General Meeting.

Leonteq's annual general meeting will take place on March 27.
