Football Legend's Crypto Investment

While many investors are getting out of the volatile asset a former English soccer star is embracing cryptocurrencies.

Ex-Liverpool, Real Madrid and England star Michael Owen has joined other prominent sports stars including boxer Manny Pacquaio to invest in a cryptocurrency firm, Owen told «CNBC» in a recent interview.

Owen, who has also invested heavily in horse racing, invested in a Singapore-based crypto exchange which claims to be the world's first celebrity cryptocurrency exchange.

According to the firms website Global Crypto Offering Exchange, allows sports people or high profile celebrities to platform create «personal cryptocurrencies» and manage their own initial coin offering.

Singapore's financial regulator The Monetary Authority of Singapore is keeping a close watch on rapid growth of cryptocurrency ownership in the city-state and is evaluating whether additional regulation is needed to protect investors in virtual currencies.
