Citi Needs More Mums

U.S. banking giant Citi wants to plug a growing talent gap by holding on to new mothers – many of whom don't return to their jobs after giving birth.

Citi’s Asia Pacific markets and securities business launched a program to retain more female employees after they give birth. The «maternity matters» program has already been rolled out in Hong Kong and Singapore.

The U.S. bank will launch the program across the region later this year, it said in a media statement. Citi wants to support employees during and after their maternity leave and complement existing infrastructure to support working mothers at Citi in Asia Pacific.

«The aim is to move from losing one in four new mums post maternity to going below 10 percent,» said James Griffiths, a spokesman for the bank.
