Korean Crypto Official Found Dead
A government official who has been in charge of formulating measures against cryptocurrency speculation was found dead at home.
Jung Ki-joon, head of the Economic Policy Coordination Office, is presumed to have suffered a heart attack while sleeping, according to police. Fellow workers cited heavy work stress on their colleague since he took charge of devising measures against cryptocurrency speculation, news agency «Yonhap» reported.
South Korea's government launched a crackdown last year on cryptocurrency transactions in an effort to curb the market from overheating. Officials in Seoul stopped the use of anonymous virtual accounts as part of their ongoing efforts to constrain speculation in virtual currencies.
In September, the Financial Services Commission in Seoul announced initial coin offerings, or ICOs, were to be banned, saying trading of cryptocurrencies needed to be tightly controlled.
