Singapore Law Goes Global

Singapore is making a bold play to cement its reputation as a global leader in legal innovation. The Singapore Academy of Law has announced sweeping international content partnerships and the launch of LawNet 4.0, a next-generation AI-driven legal research platform.

From 1 October 2025, Singapore law will be more accessible than ever. The Singapore Academy of Law (SAL) has signed landmark agreements with global heavyweights LexisNexis, Thomson Reuters, vLex and Legora.

These partnerships will make the Singapore Law Reports and other key judgments available worldwide, integrated directly into the research platforms lawyers already use daily.

World-Class Platforms

For the first time, international researchers will gain seamless access to Singapore’s authoritative law reports through global legal databases.

LexisNexis, Thomson Reuters and vLex will host Singapore judgments alongside their international collections, while Legora will also integrate SAL’s database of contract precedents with AI-assisted drafting tools.

Industry Leaders Applaud Collaboration

Legal publishing giants hailed the move as transformative. «Together with SAL, we are setting a new benchmark for excellence in Singapore’s legal landscape,» said Gaythri Raman of LexisNexis.

Thomson Reuters’ Rob Head called the partnership «a pivotal moment for legal research in the region,» while vLex and Legora emphasised how AI-driven integration will streamline workflows for lawyers across borders.

Introducing LawNet 4.0

Beyond partnerships, SAL also unveiled LawNet 4.0, the most advanced version of its flagship legal research platform.

In collaboration with the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA), LawNet 4.0 features cutting-edge AI tools, including natural language search, a new legislation module, and the GPT-Legal search engine, designed specifically for contract law.

AI That Understands Lawyers’ Questions

The GPT-Legal Q&A feature allows lawyers to ask questions in plain English and receive AI-generated answers, supported by relevant case law and legislation.

With response times up to ten times faster and improved accuracy, the tool is designed to complement traditional keyword search and expand into other domains of law.

Keeping Legal Research Affordable

SAL’s Chief Executive, Yeong Zee Kin, stressed that LawNet 4.0 will be available to all subscribers without additional costs.

«This demonstrates our commitment to ensuring that legal research remains affordable and accessible with quality legal research content – a promise we have upheld for 35 years,» he added.

Agentic AI for Corporate Governance

SAL and IMDA also showcased a proof of concept for an «agentic AGM demonstrator» – an AI system designed to streamline the planning and execution of Annual General Meetings.

This tool could transform corporate governance by improving compliance and reducing administrative burdens.

A New Era for Singapore’s Legal Innovation

With global partnerships extending the reach of Singapore law and AI reshaping how lawyers work, the initiatives unveiled at TechLaw.Fest 2025 underline Singapore’s ambition to position itself as the legal hub of Asia – and a trailblazer in legal technology worldwide.
