Bank of Singapore Strengthens Alternatives Business
Bank of Singapore is stepping up its push into alternative investments, appointing an experienced institutional investor to lead the business as demand for private market strategies continues to grow among wealthy Asian clients.
Bank of Singapore has named Benjamin Low as its new Head of Alternative Investments, effective 17 August. Based in Singapore, he will report to Global Chief Investment Officer Jean Chia and oversee the bank’s alternatives platform, covering private equity, private credit, venture capital, infrastructure and real estate.
The appointment comes as private banks across Asia expand their alternatives capabilities amid growing client demand for portfolio diversification and uncorrelated returns. According to industry data provider Preqin, global assets under management in alternative investments are projected to reach $32 trillion by 2030.
Broader Expansion in Alternatives
Low joins from Cambridge Associates, where he served as Head of Asia Hedge Funds Research. During his more than 15 years in institutional investing, he advised endowments, family offices, pension funds and corporate investors on multi-billion-dollar portfolios.
The move also builds on Bank of Singapore’s broader expansion in alternatives. Earlier this year, the bank widened the remit of Yazid Mahadi, Head of Funds Selection, to include responsibility for developing its hedge fund offering.
Jean Chia said Low’s institutional investment experience would further strengthen the bank’s «Whole Portfolio Approach» and help clients build more resilient, diversified portfolios amid heightened macroeconomic uncertainty.
