BNP Paribas wants to add dozens of bankers to its Asian wealth management operations.

Vincent Lecomte, co-head of the French bank’s wealth-management business said in a recent interview that the Paris headquartered bank wants to keep adding to its numbers in Asia. Lecomte said the bank intends to recruit a few dozen relationship managers by 2020.

It sounds a modest challenge especially when other Asian wealth management heads have gone on record as saying they want to hire 50 relationship managers a year. Something, that given the shallow talent pool is both difficult and potentially very expensive to achieve.

Asian Leadership Change

The BNP Paribas wealth management co-head did not rule out making an acquisition in Asia but stressed in an interview with Bloomberg Quint in Paris, that the bank was focused on growing organically.

BNP Paribas has gone on record before as saying it expects to be among the top five private banks in the Asia Pacific region within the next three to five years. It currently lies just outside of that spot according to finews.asia research.

Earlier this year the French banking group announced changes at the top of its wealth management division in Asia Pacific. Pierre Vrielinck took over the chief executive officer role from Mignonne Cheng, who continues at the firm as chairman.
