Manulife IM Hires From Lombard Odier, State Street

Former executives from Lombard Odier and State Street have joined Manulife Investment Management’s Hong Kong office.

Manulife Investment Management has appointed June Chua as head of Asian equities, according to a statement. In the role, she will lead a team of over 90 investment professionals across 10 markets and oversee investment process execution across Asia, with specific oversight in Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan and Vietnam. She will also serve as head of Asian equity research.

Based in Hong Kong, she reports head of emerging market equities Charlie Dutton. As of March 31, the firm has $24 billion in assets under management across Asia equity strategies.

Chua has more than 25 years of investment experience, particularly in Asia ex-Japan and Asia frontier equities. She was most recently senior vice president, head of Asia and emerging market equities at Lombard Odier Investment Managers. Prior to that, she was head of Asia equities at Harvest Global Investments. Previously, she also worked at Pinebridge Investments, Sumitomo Asset Management and Crosby Wealth Management.

Macro Strategy

The Canadian asset manager has also named Yuting Shao as senior global macro strategist as part of the multi-asset solutions team. Based in Hong Kong, she will be responsible for developing macroeconomic strategy views and articulating these views to clients and media stakeholders.

Shao has more than eight years of experience to the role, joining from State Street Global Markets where she was vice president, macro strategies, focusing on China and emerging markets in Asia. Before that, she worked at the International Monetary Fund and Institute of International Finance.
