UBS Asian Investment Conference in Numbers
The flagship regional conference of UBS is taking place this week in Hong Kong. APAC president Iqbal Khan delivered opening remarks this morning and shared some figures on the event.
The 28th UBS Asian Investment Conference (AIC) is being held in Hong Kong this week from May 27 to 30. According to an opening speech by Iqbal Khan, president Asia Pacific and co-head of global wealth management at UBS, the event is being joined by more than 3,500 attendees, up 20 percent year-on-year, including 350 corporates. 2,000 senior institutional investors, hedge funds, asset managers and around 400 of the region’s largest family offices and ultra-high net worth investors are.
Demand from investors for meetings has increased nearly 40 percent with over 2,730 one-on-one and small group meetings being held in the coming days. 80 speakers will be featured across 45 sessions.
Macro Uncertainty
In addition, Khan also spoke about risks such as volatility driven by uncertainty, particularly around the trade war, and also opportunities in areas such as the Middle East.
«The rise of protectionism, driven by the US administration’s tariff policies, is leading to more fragmentation in the world’s supply chains. But it is also bringing opportunities in the form of alternative trade frameworks and supply chains,» Khan said.
«Personally, as a relative newcomer to Asia, I have been amazed at the adaptability and entrepreneurial spirit that pervades the region. I am confident that Asia will continue to be the world’s growth engine, whatever is thrown at it.»
