He will oversee Gemini’s strategic compliance and regulatory relationships in the region, and its shape strategy, product, and operations in Asia Pacific.

Crypto exchange Gemini has appointed Andy Meehan as chief compliance officer for Asia Pacific, the company announced on Wednesday.

Most recently based in Hong Kong as head of legal for Morgan Stanley's global crimes division in Asia Pacific for five years, Meehan brings decades of experience in regulation and compliance from leading law firms and global financial institutions. He was previously Credit Suisse's APAC head of sanctions and anti-corruption compliance, managing the firm's regional sanctions and anti-corruption compliance policies. 

Meehan will be based in Singapore and report directly to Jeremy Ng, Gemini’s Asia Pacific managing director, according to the announcement.

Ng said Meehan's leadership and deep experience «will be critical in driving Gemini’s regulatory and compliance efforts in the region and working with regulators to promote smart regulations that drive adoption in this growing market.»

Gemini noted that Asia Pacific is an important and emerging global market for the crypto exchange, which was founded in 2014 by U.S. entrepreneurs and identical twins Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss.
