The privately owned, institutional-focused investment firm specializing in public and private corporate credit is strengthening the global reach of its private debt platform with a pair of new hires in Asia Pacific.

Muzinich & Co. has appointed a head of Asia Pacific private debt in Singapore, Andrew Tan, who will lead the development of the platform in the region, with the support of Denis Rayel in Sydney, who will support and lead the development of its private debt business in Australia and New Zealand, the firm announced in a statement on Wednesday.

Founded in New York in 1988, Muzinich offers a broad range of corporate credit funds across both developed and emerging markets and manages over $34.9 billion in fixed income credit assets.

It opened its Singapore office in 2017. Headed by Alexis Ng, the office includes both distribution and investment professionals, conducting research and servicing clients across the Asia Pacific region.

Experienced Hires

Tan has almost two decades of industry experience in private debt, and the has successfully built two private debt businesses for institutions targeting middle-market companies in Asia Pacific. He joins from HSBC, where he led its loans and special situations group in Asia Pacific, where he founded the bank's private debt business. He was previously head of secondary trading for loans, illiquid and distressed credit at Nomura, a platform which he co-founded in Asia in 2008. Before that, he was at Merrill Lynch covering principal investments for the firm’s balance sheet across a variety of asset classes.

Rayel has over 25 years of experience in global corporate high-yield debt markets, working variously across private credit, leveraged and acquisition finance, syndicated loans and structured and project finance, in roles that involved origination and execution of structured loan transactions and ongoing monitoring of complex loan portfolios. He has been based in Australia since 2007, and has served as Australian head of acquisition and strategic finance for Natixis, head of capital markets for the commercial arm of GE Capital and as a managing director for a loan fund.
