The patriarch of the Schroder family and great-great-grandson of John Henry Schroder, co-founder of the Schroders businesses in 1804, has died.

The head of the founding family of fund manager Schroder, Bruno Schroder, has died aged 86, the firm announced in a news release on Thursday.

Schroder was the director of the fund manager, a position he has held since 1963, making him the longest-serving member of any FTSE100 company. Bruno joined J. Henry Schroder & Co. Ltd in November 1960 after serving in the Life Guards during national service and studying at Oxford University and the Harvard Business School.

His Sense of Humour Will be Missed

«Bruno made an enormous contribution to Schroders over more than 50 years. He was passionate about Schroders and unwavering in his support for the Company. His long experience, good judgement and sense of humour will be sorely missed. On behalf of everyone at Schroders I send our heartfelt condolences to Bruno’s wife and family,» Michael Dobson, Schroders Chairman, said.

He began his career working in the internal audit division, in commercial banking and subsequently in corporate finance. He became the family's representative on its board in 1963 due to the declining health of his father, chairman of the board Helmut Schroder (1901-69).
