The head of Citi's Private Banking business in Asia announced his retirement.

After a private banking career spanning more than 30 years, Bassam Salem informed the U.S. banking giant of his decision to retire as head of the Private Banking business in Asia, effective February, 2018.

Salem joined Citi in 1985 in Geneva, and following that, he served as a banker, Regional Investments head in EMEA and Asia, and Global head of Investments.

In 2001, he joined EFG Bank as a partner to start and lead its’ Investments business, and after helping EFG list on the Swiss Stock Exchange, moved to Singapore to further build the business. He returned to head the Citi Private Banking business in Asia in 2011.

In an internal memo from Peter Charrington and Francisco Aristeguieta seen by finews.asia the bank said that a successor for the position will be announced shortly.
