Risk consulting specialist Kroll appointed a new Asia-Pacific leader for its Cyber Security and Investigations Practice.

Based in Hong Kong Paul Jackson takes on the new role with immediate effect Kroll said in a press release. Prior to taking on the new position he was Asia Pacific (APAC) managing director for the business consultancey Stroz Friedberg.

Before that he worked at J.P. Morgan in both Hong Kong and New York where he held the roles of director of Global Cyber Investigations and director of Investigations APAC.

Asia's Growing Cyber Threats

Jackson started his career with the Hong Kong Police Force and over 22 years, rose through the ranks to become chief inspector and head of the IT Forensics Practice, Investigation Team, and Training in the force’s Technology Crime Division.

With growing wealth in Asia the region has seen an increase in online attacks. Last year the Hong Kong Monetary Authority said there were 11 million online banking accounts in Hong Kong during 2015, this generated 17 million transactions worth 7.3 trillion Hong Kong dollars on average each month.

Denial of Service Attacks

While the authority said cases of cyberattacks causing actual or substantial disruption of services or losses were rare, it recorded 35 cases of fraudulent banking websites, applications and phishing emails last year.

It also recorded 19 cases of distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks, which were malicious attempts to paralyse computer systems.
