MSIG Asia Names New Regional CEO

MSIG Asia has appointed insurance industry veteran Ronak Shah as its new Regional Chief Executive Officer. He will take on an expanded mandate covering the insurer’s operations across Asia Pacific.

Singapore-based MSIG Asia has appointed Ronak Shah as Regional Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective October 1, 2026.

Shah succeeds Clemens Philippi, who was appointed Co-Chief Strategy Officer of MS&AD Insurance Group Holdings in April. In his new position, Philippi is responsible for the group’s international business strategy.

As Regional CEO, Shah will oversee MSIG Asia’s operations across Southeast Asia, Hong Kong, India and Oceania. His mandate will also include Mainland China, Taiwan and South Korea.

According to the insurer, the expanded regional structure is intended to strengthen strategic alignment and collaboration across its Asia Pacific businesses and accelerate growth.

Joins From QBE Asia

Shah joins MSIG Asia from QBE Asia, where he held several senior management positions. Most recently, he served as CEO of Wholesale Markets Asia, having previously led the insurer’s Singapore business as Country CEO.

He has more than two decades of experience in the insurance industry across Asia and North America. During his career, Shah has led business transformation initiatives, expanded specialty insurance capabilities and worked with clients and industry partners across the two regions.

At MSIG Asia, he will be responsible for setting the insurer’s regional direction, implementing its strategic priorities and accelerating business performance across key markets.

«Significant Opportunity Across the Region»

Hironori Morimoto, Group Chief Global Officer and Senior Managing Executive Officer of MS&AD, highlighted Shah’s regional experience and track record in complex markets.

«We are confident he will build on MSIG’s strong heritage and presence across Asia, and lead MSIG Asia through its next phase of growth and value creation,» Morimoto said.

Shah pointed to the insurer’s existing regional platform and growth ambitions.

«My focus is straightforward: sharpen our strategy, empower our people to execute with excellence, and create greater value for our customers and partners who count on us,» he said.

«The opportunity across this region is significant, and I intend to make the most of it.»

MSIG is part of MS&AD Insurance Group Holdings and a wholly owned subsidiary of Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance. The group employs around 40,000 people and operates in 48 countries and regions worldwide. Its Asia Pacific footprint includes Southeast Asia, Oceania, Hong Kong, Mainland China, South Korea, India and Taiwan.
