Singapore Fintech Association (SFA) is partnering Hong Kong-headquartered financial services group AMTD to promote entrepreneurship and innovation in Singapore's fintech community.

Under the strategic collaborative agreement, which builds on the two sides' work under the MAS-SFA-AMTD Solidarity Grant, SFA will become a permanent Strategic Honorary Member of AMTD’s SpiderNet ecosystem, which AMTD will also become a strategic partner of SFA, according to an announcement on Tuesday.

«SFA and AMTD are committed to connecting each other’s ecosystems to maximize the synergies for all of their respective members, and empowering the members with wide-open, cross-regional, and cross-industry opportunities,» the announcement said.

According to Calvin Choi, AMTD chairman and CEO, there are growing needs from local fintech start-ups to expand outside of Singapore and apply their technology in and learn from partners in other markets. AMTD’s strong foundation in the Greater Bay Area and connectivity with global markets will enable Singapore fintech start-ups to connect outside of Southeast Asia, he said.

Fintech Fellowship

The partners will also jointly establish the AMTD SFA Global Fintech Fellowship Program in Singapore. Each year, 10 fintech entrepreneurs will be selected, based on social impact and vision, to join the five-year program that provides access to a global network of fintechs, partners, as well as advisors who will guide the entrepreneurs on strategic planning, management skills and more.

«Having a strategic partner that can connect Singapore’s fintech players with the global market is essential to SFA’s global strategy,» Chia Hock Lai, SFA president, said about the program.
